Plates - 1. order linear plate theory

A plate

Most plates found in ships are relatively thin, and hence the so-called linear thin plate theory is frequently applied for analysis of these structural elements. Thin plates with small deformations are characterized by the fact that they absorb outher forces only as inner torsion/bending moments and shear forces normal to the plates plane.

We neglect membrane forces in linear 1. order plate theory, and the force transition from outher load to inner forces is the same as for linear beam theory.
